City Council to Vote on Proposed Changes Regarding Graffiti Fines

The Oxnard City Council will vote tomorrow night on whether to lower fines for those charged with graffiti vandalism.

The city’s Graffiti Task Force has proposed lowering the current fine of $1000 per violation to a starting penalty of $100 that will get progressively higher.

According to the task force’s proposal, a second violation would result in a fine of $200, while each subsequent violation would incur a fine of $500 each. The task force proposed the change because the current fine is so steep that many people who incur the fine can’t pay it anyway, meaning it’s not an effective deterrent.

The city council is set to vote on the measure tomorrow during its meeting tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Discuss this in the Oxnard Forum.
