Elizabeth Ann Jones of Newbury Park pleaded guilty to several charges Thursday in connection with allegedly stealing nearly $1 million from a Conejo Valley business, including computer fraud, false income tax returns, forgery and grand theft.
Jones, 44, will be sentenced on June 29 and could face up to nine years in prison. She admitted to stealing more than $500,000, an aggravated white collar crime, as well as to stealing in excess of $200,000 in property.
A bookkeeper for almost 20 years at Conejo Valley Women’s Group, Jones’s employer discovered suspicious purchases made with company funds in December 2008 and called for an audit. The audit showed Jones stole $950,000 dating all the way back to 2002, including forging and issuing company checks to herself, her creditors and her family members’ creditors.
