Police say Baudelio Ramirez Cuevas of Oxnard broke his leg after fleeing from officers during a chase Saturday morning.
Cuevas, 25, fled from K9 Officer Roger Ramirez in a car after the policeman saw him exceeding the speed limit on A Street around 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The officer pursued the suspect, who ran two stop signs and narrowly avoided hitting a pedestrian before exiting the car and fleeing on foot into a residential neighborhood.
Ramirez saw Cuevas scampering across a block wall but then lost sight of the suspect. Other officers later found Cuevas in the yard of a private homeowner on Robert Avenue after he apparently fell off the wall and fractured his right leg.
Following treatment at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, authorities took Cuevas into custody for reckless driving as well as an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for obstructing or resisting a peace officer by means of threat or violence, a probation violation and failure to appear on battery charges with injury to emergency personnel.
