Rufino Perez of Oxnard received a sentence of three years’ probation and 180 days in county jail following his guilty plea to charges of automobile insurance fraud.
Perez, 49, reported his pickup truck stolen from in front of his residence on Oct. 8, 2007, to law enforcement authorities as well as his insurance company. The insurance company’s investigation, however, later showed that Perez was behind on the lease payments for the automobile and that its registration was expired.
The insurance company notified the Department of Insurance Fraud Division after Perez failed to appear for a deposition under oath, and authorities later arrested him for allegedly filing a fraudulent auto insurance claim.
